(D18) Using Schoology as a highway for PBL
Problem Based Learning is a great tool to support content integration, student agency, and higher order thinking. These experiences are highly engaging for learners and cover several objectives. When thinking about moving students from controlled to guided inquiry, Schoology offers an easy streamlined solution to managing PBLs. We will use folders, pages, discussion questions, and assessments within Schoology to make clear pathways for students to explore. We will cover curation of resources and tech tools to differentiate with ease. We will also discuss peer feedback with Google Docs, and tracking student progress. Before we go, we will collaborate to build out some PBLs of our own. You'll be starting the new year ready to roll.

Participants will learn how first graders worked in teams to design snap together plants using TinkerCad, an online 3D design app and Makerbot 3D printers. Students did this to demonstrate what they had learned about plant parts and their purpose. In addition to learning about the procedures and resources for this project, time is allotted during the session to discuss how this creative learning pathway can work for your students in your grade with your curriculum. In addition, other useful resources and techniques will be discussed. It will be useful for participants to bring their chromebooks or lap tops to this session to sample TinkerCad.
